Evolution is the change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. It occurs when evolutionary processes such as genetic drift and natural selection act on genetic variation, resulting in certain characteristics becoming more or less common within a population over successive generations. The process of evolution has given rise to biodiversity at every level of biological organisation.

This list focuses on collecting and sharing information about biological evolution and the sciences that support it. Since this topic can be controversial for some groups of people, there will necessarily be content here that explores that controversy and clarifies the differences between natural sciences and the supernatural.

  • The Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP) - An explicit sub-project under the EBP umbrella, the VGP aims to generate near-flawless, error-free, chromosome-level reference genome assemblies for all ~70,000 extant vertebrate species (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish).

  • Ensembl Genome Browser - A joint project between EMBL-EBI and the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Ensembl focuses heavily on high-quality annotation, particularly for vertebrate genomes.

  • NCBI Genome Data Viewer (NCBI) - The NCBI is a division of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
